So if you were looking for new hardware, what are your best options? I've assembled the best choices below.
Canon i9900: Buy
Top of the Line Ink Jet. If you want a top-of-the-line ink jet printer that prints larger than 8.5" x 11" then this is the printer you want to pick up. You can print edge to edge, up to 13" x 19" posters, the quality is exceptional and for under $500, you get a printer with 8 ink cartridges for absolutely pristeen photo prints. You can even connect your camera directly to the printer! One of the greatest parts of this printer is the Firewire connection, you don't have to use up a USB port to connect this printer to your Mac!
Epson Multi-Funcion RX500: Buy

Print, Scan and Copy. I have many clients that own this all-in-one machine. The prints are excellent, the scans are great and the copier is just plain handy! The scanner portion even has a transparency adapter built-in so you can scan slides or negatives. There are also memory card slots so you can take photos on your digital camera, insert the card into the printer and print your photos. The printer is quite fast and many magazines have praised the color accuracy of the photos. If you need a new printer and want the capabilities of a scanner and copier, this is a sure thing. Also see the RX600 with a color screen

Canon i960: Buy
Best Photo Ink-Jet Printer. This printer is just an outstanding photo printer, hands down. Fast printing, great detail, a really exceptional price and 6 ink cartridges make it stand out. Canon hasn't been making really great printers up until a year ago when they decided that HP and Epson had a corner on the high-quality ink jet market and they wanted a piece of the pie. Now many of their printers outshine those from HP and Epson, including this one. Canon also has an i900D with built-in memory card slots (for printing directly from your digital camera)
Epson C86: Buy
A Simple Printer. If you don't require anything fancy and just need a printer that prints nicely and will handle the occasional photo well, then grab the Epson C86. The previous models, the Epson C84 was the predecessor to the C86 and was an excellent printer as well. This printer will get the job done for you, with minimal expense.
