| So if you were
looking for new hardware, what are your best options? I've assembled
the best choices below. |

THE
Portable MP3
Audio Player.
15,000 songs - 25,000 photos, 150 hours of video (0n 60GB version).
Apple's iPod is a thing of beauty. It will hold all your music,
can serve as a portable hard drive, can store photos, can play
videos you purchase or add yourself, can connect to your home
stereo, can display dates, addresses and
more! Apple still has the market on cool, and they have it for
good reason. The new iPod Video is absolutely awesome. Ignore
the people who say it is crazy watch video on a 2.5" screen,
the perspective is nearly the same as it is sitting on your couch,
15 feet from your television.
The iPod Video comes in either white or black and a 30GB or 60GB
version ($299 and $399 respectively). When you connect the iPod
to your Mac, all your iTunes music, pictures and videos are
automatically transferred. Unplug your iPod and go! Toss your
portable CD player folks, The iPod is where it's at! |

Tiny
Mp3 Audio Player. The iPod Nano replaces the iPod
Mini. The prior Minis were small, until Apple
released the Nano.
Holy
moly,
If you
haven't
seen one
in person, the photos don't do it justice. This sucker is thinner
than a #2 pencil! The Nano plays all your MP3s and all the
music you have stored in iTunes. This player comes in
2 versions, and 2 colors (White or Black). The 2GB
Nano ($199) will hold about 500 songs. The 4GB
Nano ($249) will hold approx. 1000 songs. Personally, I'd
grab a black
4GB Nano if I didn't have an iPod already. I'm serious,
if you don't have an iPod, or don't think you'd use one, I'd
think that one over again. Of course, it could be the gadget
geek in me saying that. ;-)

Even
Tinier
Mp3 Audio Player. The iPod Shuffle works slightly
different from the mini and standard iPods. With the iPod Shuffle,
there is no screen for navigating your music. This is actually
a plus!! When you're active, walking somewhere or busy working,
you might not be able to change your music anyway. With the
iPod Shuffle you can select what music you want on the device
via iTunes (just like the other iPods), but when you play the
iPod Shuffle your music is randomly chosen for you. There are
still play, pause, next, previous and volume buttons on the
Shuffle so you can quickly skip a song or stop playback if
you need to. There are two versions of iPod Shuffle, a 512MB
version and a 1GB version. The larger version will hold about
240 songs, which I recommend over the smaller size simply for
the price (better value). There is no simpler MP3 audio device
on the market.

| Video Conference
over the Internet.
I'm wanting to push this little piece of hardware simply because
it is sooooo cool. All our computers (10.3 and higher) come with
iChat AV, an instant messaging application from Apple. With iChat
AV and an iSight we can video chat with friends! In the future
everyone will be able to see who they are talking to when on
the phone,
except that we can do it now! Apple's iSight is of such supreme
quality it just beats the pants off other video cams on
the market. A chat with an iSight is smoother, brighter and more
realistic. Popular Mechanics even commented on how wonderful
this product is.

| Wireless
Music. I
have one of these beauties and I love it! It is one of my
favorite pieces of Apple gear. Apple is going to sell a
ton of these. Not sure what Airport Express is? Well for starters
you can use it to stream your iTunes music from your office, or
wherever your computer is, to any stereo in your house. No, it
isn't an FM transmitter, it is real digital wireless audio streaming.
You can also use the Airport Express to print wirelessly. You can
even bring it with you on a trip and plug into a high speed
internet connection
for instant wireless! Note: Wireless base
station required (about $60). |
