| Being productive
is a good thing, and the following software titles are great ways
to get work done.
|
|
|
|
|
Your Geneaology. There
are a couple software titles for tracking your geneaology on
the Mac, but none can even compare to Reunion. Reunion is now
at version 8 and is so mature that I predict it will do everything
you will ever want to do when following your family history.
The program is frequently praised for its ease-of-use and stability.
Plus, it supports native Gedcom files (the geneaology standard),
which means you can import geneaology data from 99.9% of all
sources. If you are a geneaology buff, this is the program to
get.

| The Office
Standard. Yes, many times Microsoft Office is required.
Microsoft has continued to improve Office for Mac and even has
their own Macintosh division
within Microsoft, which is completely separate from the PC division.
If you want to easily share Word, Excel and Powerpoint files
between a Mac and a PC, or AppleWorks doesn't cut it for you,
and you simply need a heavier-duty office suite, then grab Microsoft
Office. It does more than anyone could ever want it to do. However,
if the price tag scares you, look at the next product. Also,
you can save money if you are a student
or educator. Own a previous version - Buy

| A More
Affordable Office. No
one HAS to purchase Microsoft Office if they want to gain compatibility
with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint files.
Instead, you can purchase a
little office suite called ThinkFree. ThinkFree contains programs that are completely
cross compatible with the Microsoft Office programs. ThinkFree
Write = Word, ThinkFree Calc = Excel, ThinkFree Show = Powerpoint.
ThinkFree is a Java program, which will run a little slower than
Microsoft Office, but the difference in price makes the slight
inconvenience worthwhile.

| Chart,
Graph, Outline. If you need to chart, graph or outline
anything, OmniGraffle is what you want. Yes, the name seems a
little strange, but once you get your eyes on this 100% Mac program,
you will know why I'm recommending it. Diagrams are basic to
the way people think, and we create them all the time without
even realizing it. Whatever your profession or interests, chances
are you’ve occasionally sketched out some ideas on a piece
of graph paper or the back of a napkin. OmniGraffle is the tool
to help you organize your thoughts visually, document them beautifully,
and communicate them to the world. Create flow charts, org charts,
network diagrams, family trees, project processes, office layouts
- anything you can think of that can be represented by symbols
and lines. |

| Easily
Print Labels and Envelopes.
Okay, I know that most of you scratch your heads every time you
need to print mailing labels. The program is either too hard,
the assistants aren't clear enough or the final result is off
just a little. I've introduced many clients to SOHO Labels &
Envelopes - every single one of them has taken a deep breath
and relaxed after they saw how easy and seamless SOHO makes it.
The greatest feature of SOHO, in my opinion, is the integration
with the OS X Address Book. You can also design your own labels,
including images or graphics. You can download a demo from their
website and test the program out. You'll love it, I promise. |

| Store ANYTHING!.
Ever find something on the internet, in an email or in a document
you
are reading that you want to store for future reference, or just
to hold while you think? StickyBrain can store text, pictures,
sounds, web, and email addresses, file links, calendars, to-do
lists, alarms, and more. How it works: Simply press a pre-defined
key on your keyboard or use the system-wide contextual menu (control
click on anything) to store your web receipt, health tip article,
sunset photo, email address, etc. the second you see
it. Store
it while
it's hot, and you'll have it when you need it. You'll never lose
or forget anything ever again. This program really is incredible. |
