Shopping online can save you a good chunk of change. I won't list prices because even the internet has sales. Use these links for comparison shopping on the graphics programs below.

Adobe Creative Suite Standard: Buy

The Pro Graphic Standard. This is the collection of programs I use to design all the solutions I put together. Adobe Photoshop for image editing. Adobe InDesign for page layout and Adobe Illustrator for drawing. Most regular consumers have no need for such a large collection of graphics programs, but some people want the best - here it is. For those consumers who want features and functionality at a more managable price, see below. If you already have a copy of one of these programs, buy the upgrade instead.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 3: Buy
For Consumer Graphics. If iPhoto's editing capabilities aren't quite doing it for you and you need a more robust photo/graphic editing tool, Photoshop Elements is great. Priced incredibly reasonably, if you are a general consumer, Photoshop Elements gives you access to many of the tools professionals like me use, but in a much simplified package. I say grab a copy. Something to note, some scanners actually come with Photoshop Elements! Version 3 is packed with even more professional features. If you're using version 2, I'd consider picking up version 3.
Painter 8: Buy
Interested in Painting? Painter has been around for quite a while. The latest version actually received a MacWorld editors choice award for Best Natural Drawing Program - those are high marks. With Painter you have access to tools that mimic natural painting and sketching. You get to mix your own colors, experiment with over 400 different brushes, paint with digital water color, sketch photographs and more and more. Also, if you pick up Painter, you might also want a Wacom tablet, so you can paint and draw more traditionally - using a pressure sensitive pen!
Print Explosion Deluxe: Buy
Create Calendars & Greeting Cards. The fastest, easiest way to create one-of-a-kind custom greeting cards, signs, banners and more. It's easy to use, so you don't need to be a computer whiz. And with more than 8,800 ready-made professional designs for virtually every occasion under the sun, you don't need to be an artist either. Print Explosion Deluxe was designed exclusively with the Macintosh in mind. So you know it works like a Mac program should. Another excellent option would be Print Shop for Mac. Print shop had been completely upgraded and reworked. Print Shop has excellent integration with iPhoto, iTunes and more.
